So Will I

Mission can come in all shapes and sizes. In 1776, Caesar Rodney rode 70 miles through a thunderstorm from Delaware to Philadelphia to break a deadlock in favor of Independence from England. He believed in his mission and believed in the cause that eventually led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
We, as believers, are also on a mission. Called to go out and make disciples. At times it can be scary stuff. The world is more polarized than it has ever been and stepping out in the name of the Gospel can be costly. Or maybe we feel unqualified or unprepared to spread the Good News. The prophet Isaiah understood that tension. His call to be the prophet of the Lord reads this way:
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:4-8)
We don’t always need to have the ability. More often than not we need to have the availability. We are called to be people on a mission. Sent out to the world for a purpose. Hillsong UNITED released a song So Will I and it reads this way:
If the wind goes where You send it, so will I. If the rocks cry out in silence, so will I. If the sum of all our praises still falls shy. Then we'll sing again a hundred billion times (Hillsong UNITED).
Availability to go where He calls us. To sing his praise over and over again. He is the God that commands the sea to go here or there. And he calls us to go out also. To fill the earth with the knowledge of His glory (Habakkuk 2). So… Will you?
