Love That is True

The day has finally come! An entire season of preparations. Driving to see all the displays. Baking up a storm. Singing carols and enjoying those films that only come out this time of year. It’s a time that is filled with smiles and laughter. Joy and happiness. However, in the midst of it all, it’s easy to forget the real reason we come together on Christmas day. The heart of Christmas was found in the great love of our God who became fully human as a baby and dwelt among us. Lived like us and sacrificed His life for us. That is how we know what it means to spread love through the season and beyond. The gospel writer, John, wrote it this way that this is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:16-18 NIV).

A baby was born to us. And He was a sign to all people. A sign of joy, peace, and hope. He was the one who would come and save us all so that we can follow in His footsteps. To show what it truly means to love through our actions and in truth. Not just through well wishes and some greeting cards. Return to the heart of Christmas today as you spend time with your loved ones. Because the reality is that Christmas only comes but once a year. The happiest of days is finally here. So come on, sing it out. Let's give love that's true. Merry Christmas to you.

Christmas only comes but once a year. The happiest of days is finally here. Jesus, You were born and You gave love that's true. A very Merry Christmas to you (Sidewalk Prophets, Merry Christmas to You).

He is the reason we celebrate this season. He taught us what it means to love. Share the heart of Christmas with someone today!
