Pondering the Path
Holiness is a hard topic to discuss. It’s even harder to live out. With so much pain, struggle and chaos around, it’s hard to see holiness. Look at our own lives. How hard is it to go through a whole day without a negative thought. Without a complaint. Or without a missed opportunity to do good for someone. For many of us, we find it impossible to be and live holy lives. And the truth is, left to ourselves, it is impossible. By ourselves, we can never be what we were meant to be. We can never reach the standard God has set for us. Sin is real. Pain hurts. And we struggle through the days at times. Just trying to be ok enough to make it through. So how can we ever “be holy, as God is holy.” There has to be another way, right?
The wonderful reality for us today is that there is a way. And it’s because of the holiness of Jesus Christ that we have a shot. Holiness is possible because the Lord Jesus died for the failings of our flesh and sent His Spirit to dwell in us so that we can fight sin and walk toward eternal life. The pathway to that holiness emerges from thinking upon the wonder of all that Jesus has done for us. Ponder that path. Ask Jesus to make it real to you in a way that it’s never been before (Alistair Begg, The Pathway to Holiness).
The pathway to holiness has been made for us through the person of Jesus Christ. Even on your worst days, He sees you. He made a way for you. And when you think you don’t deserve it, read what the author of Hebrews wrote, how much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant (Hebrews 9:14-15 NIV).
When you don’t feel good enough, Christ is your mediator. He stands with you. Covers you with His holiness so that you might be set free. Set free from the struggle and the pain. Set free from the feels of unholiness and unworthiness. He stands in your place so that you might be called a child of the living God. He made a way for you. A pathway forward. Ponder that this week. Ask Him to reveal something to you this week.
Would you ask Him that today? To say wherever You lead me, I know You won't leave me. Wherever You call me, You will make a way. Wherever we're goin', I will be holdin' to the promise You have made. You will make a way (I Am They, Make a Way).
The holiness of Jesus has made a way for you! Will you go where He leads?
