It's In the Evidence

The question of God’s existence has been discussed, fought over, and debated for centuries. Throughout Scripture we see His existence being questioned. In recent history there seems to be a resurgence of it. The reality of God, however, is that no matter how often we debate it, He is there. The fact that the transformation of the disciples from fearful to fearless after the resurrection is a powerful testimony to its reality (Lee Strobel, The Case for Christ). Something very profound caused a shift in their lives that they were willing to die for. The very presence of God moved them to pursue a common mission in the world. John Wesley would say that after his personal encounter with God, when he felt his “heart strangely warmed,” he was never the same.

The truth of the reality of God has been around us all the time. There is evidence of it from the beginning. When Paul wrote to the Roman church to correct their path he wrote that since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse (Romans 1:20 NIV).

The evidence of God has been revealed to us and all around us. But it’s more than that. To have a relationship with Jesus Christ goes beyond just knowing the historical facts about him, yet it's rooted in the historical facts about him (Lee Strobel, The Case for Christ).

Yes, we are rooted in the facts of God and His Son, but the relationship that Paul, John Wesley, and many others have experienced is so much deeper than that. It’s coming to know who Jesus Christ is, not just knowing about him… It’s knowing that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life (John 14:6 NIV). It’s knowing that no one comes to the Father except through [Jesus] (John 14:7 NIV).

There is one way to know and experience the truth of God. It’s through His Son, Jesus Christ who gave us His Spirit to be His witness to the world. We come to know him by studying Scripture. It’s a proclamation to say that through every blessing. Through every promise. Through every breath I take. I believe that You are Provider (Pat Barrett, The Way). It’s a declaration of faith to say I’ve seen you moving. I see the evidence of Your goodness all over my life. I see Your promises in fulfillment all over my life (Josh Baldwin, Evidence).

The reality of God in our lives is all in the evidence.

I am a former evangelical. I now advocate for a non-supernatural worldview. I have developed a method which exposes the fatal flaw in the arguments of Evangelical apologists regarding the Resurrection. My method is called the Ghost Buster Counter-Apologetics Technique. I welcome any feedback.
