I Want to See A Victory
Have you ever wondered why some movements succeed and others fail? It comes down to purpose… We all have grand ideas of change we want to see. Ways to improve the quality of life… However, often we don’t define the purpose and vision of the project and when hard times come or we get criticized, the movement or the project is quickly shut down and we feel worse than when we began.
The people of Israel understood this feeling as they faced down an army of Philistines. King Saul and his men were on a mission to conquer the surrounding area… And they were on a roll… until the Philistines…
Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel…“This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.” On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified (1 Samuel 17:8-11).
Against this champion the people of Israel were terrified… They forgot why they were fighting and who stood with them. Have you felt that way? Afraid of what you were up against? Or feeling small and unworthy? Maybe even alone?
It’s natural to feel that way up against the enemy or a situation, especially if we find ourselves at a low point in our lives where we feel we don’t deserve it. But we cannot stay there. Nor could the people of Israel. They needed someone who understood why they were there. And a young man stepped forward:
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands…All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands” (1 Samuel 17:45-47).
The legacy of David reaches us today… He understood the purpose and who stood for him… Our God is for us… then who could be against us? Elevation Worship wrote a song called “See a Victory” that reads this way, The weapon may be formed, but it won't prosper. When the darkness falls, it won't prevail 'cause the God I serve knows only how to triumph. My God will never fail. Oh, my God will never fail. I'm gonna see a victory. For the battle belongs to You, Lord.
Everyday we face the battle of our minds, the world, and the legacy we want to leave for the church. When we are at our lowest is when we are at our weakest… But it doesn’t have to stay that way. God sees you… Jesus Christ died for you… [He] take[s] what the enemy meant for evil, and [He] turn[s] it for good. Do you want to see a victory today?
