Run to the Father

Have you ever had a job where everyday felt like a drag. The hours move at a snail's pace. The work is exhaustive. The boss is not very kind. And there are days that you leave there more tired than when you started. It drains your mood. Pushes you to the very edge of your emotions. And you are left feeling on edge and tired. Maybe it was your first job or your current one, but throughout our lives we have come across this scenario. It’s difficult to manage. It can feel worse when we feel called into such a firestorm…

The truth is, though, we were never meant to do it alone. Many of us have tried. We are going to change the world one menial task at a time. We can do it on our own. But in reality, we end up burning ourselves out because doing life alone isn’t the life that is heading in the direction of God. He created us for something different. And when we try to do it all alone, we are walking away from the life he has called us to. This is what was happening in Ancient Israel when the prophet Isaiah brought a message of exile and eventual hope to the people of Israel as they felt the burden of a life led walking away from God. Isaiah tells the people that even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:30-31 NIV).

There is another way than carrying the burden all alone. Cody Carnes writes it this way:

I've carried a burden for too long on my own. I wasn't created to bear it alone. I hear Your invitation to let it all go. Yeah, I see it now. I'm laying it down and I know that I need You. I run to the Father. I fall into grace. I'm done with the hiding. No reason to wait. My heart needs a surgeon. My soul needs a friend. So I'll run to the Father again and again (Cody Carnes, Run to the Father).

We don’t have to continue on the path alone anymore. There is a better way. It’s in the direction of God. Where there is hope. And grace. Where we don’t have to carry the burden alone anymore. Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NLT).

Do you feel the burden today? You don’t have to go it alone. Run to the Father today. Fall into His grace. There really is no reason to wait. He waits with open arms and will walk with you on the next step of the journey He has called you to. With Him you will walk and not grow weary. Run to the Father today!
