Step Up
Too often we are pulled away from the faith and deceived to believe that the ways of the world are better for us. That if I can just accomplish this one thing… or if I can get my list done… Then I will find peace and happiness… And the reality is, once we have completed that task or checked all the boxes, oftentimes we are just more tired, frustrated and ready to move one from it. We don’t find the peace we were hoping for.
This is true in our faith too… Too often we come to the conclusion that if I just read this book or that… If I go to church every Sunday then my faith is secure… All the while, the deceiver continues to use subtle ways to keep you from growing. Paul saw similar things within the Galatian church. They had become deceived about the faith and began to stray from the path of Jesus Christ… Within his letter to that church he writes:
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law (Galatians 5:16-18).
Paul was concerned for their growth… That the evidence of their faith would be lived out and visible. He went further to give them so that they can also see it.. That they could step up to the occasion and keep in step with the Spirit… He writes:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25 ESV).
Like the Galatians, we are challenged to grow our faith… That the fruit of the Spirit would be alive in us more today than yesterday… So let’s step up today… Would you join me in a Bible reading plan for the remainder of this week… For the four days, will you grow with me?… If you are up for the challenge… Click the link below…
Let’s step up and grow together…
