Adjustments Needed
I’ve been told to live my own truth. Do whatever makes me feel good. Get rid of boundaries the rules are stifling. Chase good feelings soon we’ll be gone. But I found myself more lost than ever. Enslaved and bound to my desires and that’s not freedom (One Voice Worship, More Like Jesus).
How does that resonate with your life today? Over the course of the last couple decades, we have seen a rise in culture to “find your own truth,” “Live your best life,” “YOLO,” or even “Carpe Diem.” We have been fed the notion that we only get one chance to live so do it for ourselves. Seize our moment in time for our own pleasure. The problem with that belief is that we don’t have just one life to live. Sure, on earth we do, but there is an eternity waiting for us on the other side of this current life and we are called to do more with it than chasing the good feelings. Those who call themselves believers of the Way of Jesus are called to more. The apostle John once said that we know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did (1 John 2:3-6 NIV).
Whoever claims to have Jesus in their heart, must live as he lived. To spend the rest of our days becoming more like Him and less like the way the world would have us be. How are we doing with that? Do our lives resemble more of Jesus each day or do we tend to fall in line with what culture and society tell us are good things? Are we allowing Scripture, prayer and the Holy Spirit to guide our steps? Or are the rhythms and patterns of our lives just one degree off?
Is your prayer today that the Holy Spirit [would] make [you] more like Jesus. Every day, a little more like Jesus. Crucify my flesh with Yours that my new life might be secured. Everything I do, done so I can honor You. Resurrect me, sanctify me. Make me into Your image (One Voice Worship, More Like Jesus).
It’s a new day to adjust the instruments we use to everyday as our guide for living this current life that we have. What adjustments will you make?
