Refreshed

Easter, like the spring, can bring about a feeling of refreshment and renewal… It’s like that feeling you get when you take the first sip of your favorite cold drink after a day of being out in the sun… You feel rejuvenated and ready to start the next thing. Easter, and really the meaning behind Easter can have the same effect. The excitement and invigorating feeling from Jesus' risen body can be a refreshing experience. And for many of us, we feel ready to start that next chapter. Ready to jump back on the horse of deep spiritual disciplines. More devoted rhythms of our lives that drive us toward deeper discipleship. Ready to carry the freshness we feel from the resurrection into the remainder of the year ahead.

As this year goes on though, we will face challenges. Other things that want to invade the schedules and rhythms we are creating… Things that want to steal the joy we feel at being made new in Christ… The future itself is uncertain… But how we handle it… How we manage those situations doesn’t have to be. King Solomon asked for wisdom for the years ahead and he wrote that wisdom down in the book of Proverbs. Chapter 3 says to Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV).

We don’t know what the rest of the year will bring, but what Easter has taught us is that God is still the same. The freshness we feel in renewal can stay as long as we trust in what God is doing in and through our lives. Whatever we face. Whatever we go through… He’s the same God. The author of Hebrews said that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8 NIV). We may change through the year. Our situations may change. But the reality for us is that we have been made new through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He still has His purpose for us in His sight and we can continue with our refreshed perspective. He’s the same God who was a Savior then and is a Savior now.

Trust Him to make your paths straight this week.
