Monday Morning Faith

Sir Francis Bacon once said that knowledge is power. Throughout the years that has been a commonly misunderstood phrase. It had come to be understood as the more you knew the more advantage you have over someone who doesn’t know. However, Sir Francis was speaking more practically when it came to the balance between knowledge and power. To him, knowledge was only the first step. It became the cornerstone of reputation through the transmission and sharing of knowledge and therefore would give someone power. There was an action step that came when acquiring knowledge. Knowledge is meant to move one towards action.

As Paul wrote to young Timothy, he shared similar ideas. Paul once wrote, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:14-17 NIV).

Learning Scripture and knowing are meant to equip us for the good work of the faith. It’s not supposed to be left on Sunday morning. It’s meant to carry us into our week feeling equipped to share all that we know and have seen. Knowledge without action is empty. It lacks something. And it can leave us feeling stagnant. Our faith needs to carry into the actions of Monday morning. Where we say:

Let my worship be more than just singing. When did music become a religious thing? Let these songs be what thеy're meant to be. Thе sound of your church awakening. And help my heart to keep up with the heavens where the angels sing 24/7 praise. You're more than enough to get through my rough. You're teaching me Monday morning faith. And that's all I really need (SEU Worship, Monday Morning Faith).

As believers, we have been called to more than just hearing the Word of God. We are called to do what it says. To put into action the knowledge we have through Scripture. And as Jesus said to his disciples, now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them (John 13:17 NIV).
