The Power of Testimony
The conversation around healing can be a difficult one for us. There is pain in our past… Things that can be felt to this day… But if there is one thing we have learned throughout the gospels is that it is never too late for us… Yes we may be broken… Yes we may be hurting… But there is still redemption for us… Peter thought he had lost everything until Jesus came to him and restored him to a place of leadership. Peter was given a new direction and a renewed purpose. In the book of Acts, we come to see a new Peter. A different Peter. The pain and defeat of the past is gone only to be left with scars of reminders… But one that is no longer afraid to step up and proclaim the name of Jesus. After the Holy Spirit came in Acts 2, Peter stands before the crowd and says:
“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation” (Acts 2:36-40).
The scars that Peter still carried would always be with him… But I have to imagine they remind him of the one who makes him whole again… The one who restored him and healed the past.
What about you? Do your scars weigh you down? Or do they tell the story of God’s faithfulness in your life? Your testimony can be one of power… If we share it with the world… We don’t have to be who we were before… The scars that can be a reminder of how we were healed in Jesus’ name through the work done on the cross… Our scars reveal the heart of Jesus inside of our lives and tell the story of what he has done for us… To heal us… To redeem us… To restore us…
I know it’s hard, but the hope we find in healing is that we can be thankful for the scars (I Am They)
