We are Called

Obstacles are a part of life, right? Challenges to overcome... Trouble to endure… Hurdles to jump over… We get used to them as we get older… but do we ever use them as a part of our story. When the times of testing arrive, do we see it as a good thing?
There is much to give thanks for in life… The blessings of day and a God who sees us through the difficult days. Maverick City Music wrote a song called Mercy that reads this way:
Now I'm alive to tell the story, how I've overcome. It's His goodness and mercy and the power of His blood
(Mercy by Maverick City Music)
I have been able to overcome all of the obstacles of the past because of God’s goodness and mercy… It was through the power of His blood on the cross that continues to see us through the obstacles to come… But we aren’t meant to keep that to ourselves… I’m alive today to share that story… And moreso, to live as Jesus lived… Right before the cross, Jesus met with his friends over a meal… In the middle of it, he got up and began to wash their feet… This was a task for the lowest servants… Not the Messiah… And yet…
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. (John 13:12-17).
We are called to live the life of the servant… To humble ourselves before a watching world… By taking the position of the lowest servant… Jesus set the bar pretty high… When things get hard… It’s difficult to feel like serving… But that is our calling… To share the goodness and mercy that has been given to us to the rest of the world… Why not start today?
