Through the Window
Have you felt lost before? Unsure where to go and what to do? There is a good chance that at some point in life you have felt this way… Or maybe you feel that way today. Maybe it’s been a really hard year and it’s even harder to think about sharing your faith because your circumstance isn’t something you want to share. The scars hurt too badly.
A few years back, I Am They wrote a song called Scars that looks at the pain we experience in a different way. The song reads: Waking up to a new sunrise. Looking back from the other side. I can see now with open eyes. Darkest water and deepest pain. I wouldn't trade it for anything. 'Cause my brokenness brought me to you. And these wounds are a story you'll use. So I'm thankful for the scars. 'Cause without them I wouldn't know your heart. And I know they'll always tell of who you are. So forever I am thankful for the scars (I Am They, Scars).
The interesting thing about scars is that, though they may hurt, they also become a story that can be shared. The story of your life can be one that shows the light of God in your life. Because the truth is he came to this world to bring light into the darkness of a broken world. We have never been meant to be the producer of the light, but to be the window where the light of Jesus Christ inside of us can be visible. The Apostle John understood this so well when he wrote his account of Jesus’ life. He begins his gospel by saying: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world (John 1:1-9).
You see, the man named John was not the light himself, but was to be a witness of the light of Jesus Christ, who was the true light, inside of him. Wherever you find yourself today… Let the light of Jesus shine through you. The scars you may feel become a witness to all He has done for us along our journey. Open the window… And let the Light shine out today!
