I'll Take You at Your Word

What does your morning routine look like these days? Do you find yourself running around like a headless chicken, tirelessly going through your lists in your head while multi-tasking the kids and the chores? Are you dropping everything you pick up? Maybe you’ve had tasks to complete that you’ve left to the last minute and now anything extra that may pop up within the morning feels completely overwhelming! You think to yourself “if only I could be the Flash and move at super speed, I can at least enjoy my coffee while it's still warm!”

If this is you, you’re not alone. We live in a world that believes being busy equals productivity. If we don’t accomplish every single task on that to-do list, we feel discouraged. Eventually we let these thoughts that we are not doing enough fester, to the point it begins to set the precedent for our day. The next thing we know we are yelling at the car in front of us to move faster, not holding the door open for those coming in behind us, and feeling overall short tempered.

Now let me ask… Are you a coffee or tea drinker in the morning? And if you don’t have your warm beverage in the morning, how do you feel? Are you able to focus on the things that are coming up? Can I encourage you to let Jesus fill the feeling your warm beverage brings this week?

However, there is hope today! If we can refocus our minds toward God’s plan for the day, we can begin to let go of the misconception that being busy is productive. It is a shift in perspective of what productivity means… In Romans 12, Paul writes: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:1-2).

Mornings can feel chaotic… Time may slip too fast… But I want to challenge you to take some time at night to prep for your morning… Set out the clothes, set the timer on the coffee pot, gather your work bags and place them by the door. With your prep done… Take five minutes before you even step foot out of bed in the morning and give praise to God. You woke up! You see another morning! That is more than enough to give thanks to God for each day! Each morning, start your day with the things you are thankful for. Renew your mind and have faith that the author of our lives has already set the day for you! He has a plan if we give him the page to write it…

Benjamin William Hastings and Cody Carnes released a song that reads this way: You spoke, and the chaos fell in line. Well, I know 'cause I've seen it in my life. It's a narrow road that leads to life but I wanna be on it. It's a narrow road and the tide is high 'cause You parted the water. I'll take You at Your word. If You said it, I'll believe it. I've seen how good it works. If You start it, You'll complete it (Take You At Your Word).

He has said it. He will complete it… Sure we will have responsibilities each day. God isn’t going to pull up in a chariot to take the kids to school or drive you to work. But be encouraged today that God has a plan for your day. His mercies are new each morning and we have the ability to start the day refreshed, renewing our minds, refocusing our thoughts and going through the day living out what He calls us to do.
