Distracted?
Distraction is pretty easy to come by today. Between work, schedules, social media and everything else that comes up in a given day; it is hard to find time for yourself or even to focus on our faith… It can feel sometimes that if I don’t do the spiritual things early in the morning, then they won’t get done before I go to bed at night.
The problem becomes a vicious cycle inside of life. Forgetting to focus on the spiritual side of life inevitably makes the rest of the day harder… Or my outlook a little more dark… Or my thoughts a little more negative… and the cycle keeps going and going. It takes an intentionality of our day to climb out of the deepest depths. Paul wrote it this way to the church in Colasse:
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory (Colossians 3:1-4).
Whatever seems to be going on… Or whatever chaos seems to be swirling… We need to remember to set our minds on Jesus Christ to center and ground us… He has not failed us yet. Our lives become the witness to that. Phil Wickham new song reads this way:
Remember that fear that took our breath away? Faith so weak that we could barely pray. But He heard every word, every whisper. Now those altars in the wilderness. Tell the story of His faithfulness. Never once did He fail, and He never will. This is our God. This is who He is, He loves us (This is Our God).
Our God is stronger than all the craziness around us… Even if the waves are crashing like they did to Peter as he walked on the water. Our God has not failed us… Even in the wilderness… and He is calling us out onto the water today… But it requires our focus… Let’s focus on Jesus this week.
