Somehow or Other, It Came Just the Same

Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small, was singing without any presents at all! He hadn't stopped Christmas from coming! It came! Somehow or other, it came just the same!  And the Grinch, with his grinch feet ice-cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling. "How could it be so? It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes, or bags!" He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more!
Some years are harder than others. Some Christmases even more so. Maybe we are even feeling a bit grinchy this year. But this year, much like every other, we will gather together. The tall and the small. We will sing and eat, sometimes laugh or cry even if there are no presents at all.
And for some, we are the Whos down in Whoville who sing from the top of the porch to the top of the wall. Who sings Glory to God in the Highest and Peace on earth to all. Christmas for those Whos brings wonderful expectancy and overwhelming joy.
The reality for both the Whos and Grinches is that we have the greatest gift of all.
Whether our bah humbug may come out more than we want it to right now or we spread Christmas cheer by singing loud so all can hear… We have a wonderful hope this season. Our hope came as a baby and grew to be the Savior of the world. Because of this truth, we can have hope because:
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:29-31).
We can’t stop Christmas from coming… It will come… Somehow or other. It may come without ribbons. It may come without tags… It may come with more weariness, more exhaustion or the excitement of a child. This Christmas season may or may not be harder than most. But those who hope in the Lord will continue to find a renewed strength. It may not change your circumstances… but it could change your perspective and help it, perhaps, mean a little bit more.
