A New Future

By Eddie Keith
Traveling into the future can be unnerving, yet we as a people are enamored with it. Countless stories, movies, and books revolve around traveling into the future… or going back to the past to correct the present. One thing we learn from it all is simple… Don’t mess with the timeline… Our past is simply that, whether good or bad, it is our past and it has shaped who we are today.
But what is the thing that you can look back on your life and say, “this has shaped who I am today?” Whether that be a good thing or bad, what has shaped who we are today? Our past has a tendency to creep in and there are times we cling to it desperately. It’s become a part of us. This is how we are known… But does it always have to be?
Paul writes, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation”. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
The old has gone, the new is here.
We all have a story to tell. Something that has driven us to be who we are. It sometimes becomes something that we want to cling to… to cling so tight to because we are afraid of what the future will be like if we were to let it go. But the story doesn’t have to stop there… New doesn’t have to be bad… For the believer, we have been made new in Christ. Ransomed for our freedom and our future.
He holds that in his hands and we don’t have to fear what comes next because He is “about to do something new”... He’s “already begun! Do you not see it?” Isaiah 43:19
