The Hope of Christmas
When you woke up this morning, how was your Christmas Spirit? Were you more Buddy the Elf or Ebenezer Scrooge? Even in all the lights and carols, we still wake up with a bit of Bah! Humbug on our minds. The everyday situations are still there. The stress from November continues. The end of the year deadlines still exist. And for some reason school finals are still right before Christmas. We live packed lives that make it harder to enjoy the season.
It may be a different set of circumstances this year. Maybe something major has been happening in life and we feel like we are slipping away. Losing the hope we once had or a growing sense that things won't be ok. Maybe, like the Israelite people, we feel that things just don’t feel right this year.
Chapters after Isaiah declares that God will come and dwell with His people, he writes: Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness (Isaiah 43:18-19).
God was on the move for his people. It would take hundreds of years for it to happen. But a new thing was coming. You may be hurting this year. These days peace on Earth is hard to find. And I need you to remind me one more time. You're still the hope of Christmas. You're still the light when the world looks dark. You're still the hope of Christmas. And You're still the hope of my heart (Matthew West, The Hope of Christmas).
The Promise of Jesus Christ coming as the Savior of the world is still a very real hope this holiday season. Whatever the stressor may be this year. Whatever the feeling, Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23)
God is faithful and He is the Hope of Christmas. As you go about the week, where do you need His hope the most? Where do you need the new thing that comes with a deeper relationship with Jesus?
