The Peace of Christmas

Have you ever felt as if the world is just moving too fast around you… Like there are just days that you can’t catch your breath? The closer that Christmas day is upon us, that pressure, stress and fast paced movement seems to be speeding up… It becomes impossible to find any peace throughout the day. Between work and life schedules, taking the time to just be doesn’t seem to be available until the new year.

You’re not alone in how you feel this season. The wonderful news for all of us is that peace is still available even when we feel we can’t get a hold of it… John, the Gospel writer, wanted to write an account of the Messiah so that all who read it would come to believe in the Savior, Jesus Christ. As Jesus was walking toward the cross, He wanted his disciples to have something for the time after he was gone from there. Jesus tells his disciples that: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid  (John 14:27).

Jesus was the very peace that was given to all the world… It was a peace that was given at Christmas… And is still available to us even in our fast paced schedules. Hillsong Worship puts it this way: Behold the star of Bethlehem. The word of God has become flesh. Unto us a child is born, the savior of this broken world. Oh, hear the angel voices sing, let us adore him. Peace has come, for our king is with us (Hillsong Worship, Peace Has Come).

Peace came down at Christmas to be with us… The Savior of a broken world… To bring light in the darkness… No matter what you may be feeling this Christmas season… Peace is within reach. When Paul wrote to the church in Philippi, he encouraged them to not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

The peace of God will guard our hearts and minds this Christmas. Through the stress and frantic week ahead. He is there. Peace has come to us all.
