Revive Us, Oh Lord

By Eddie Keith
Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life according to your promise!” Psalm 119:54
The year was 1864… The Civil War had recently ended… There was a cry in the nation to see revival come at such a broken time. Feeling a call that God would revive this world and bring back personal holiness, a local pastor held a holiness meeting to revive his community. Of the men invited to this meeting, a few Pastors left feeling the presence of God and the desire for this movement of the Spirit to continue. And so it did and in 1867 they gathered together to form a mission to seek holiness and proclaim that in a series known as the Camp Meeting. The meeting where “the consciousness of the revelations of the Divine glory were almost overwhelming.” They feel burdened to save more in the name of God. Finally in the summer of 1867 they held their first weeklong meeting. Revival broke out… but where?
The local pastor was from Tuckahoe and held his meeting in Seaville. The Pastors gathered in Philadelphia and chose a small town, at the time, to be the epicenter of this revival. That place was Vineland, NJ.
Revival broke out across this area over 150 years… Is it our cry to see it happen again? The Psalm here calls out to God according to his promise. This translation says give me life. The NKJV translates this as “Revive me.” The Psalmist uses this phrase 10 other times in Psalm 119. The Psalmist was in desperate need of a revival. Are you? Is the church?
Would you let this be the cry of your heart today? Revive me God! According to your promise, Revive us!
