Don’t Walk, Run

Don't Walk, Run!
There are some days that feel good, right? We wake up to the sun shining down. The birds singing in the air. The fresh, mountain grown aroma always there for you when you wake up. But then there are some days where we feel like we’re running on empty. Where the weight of the stress, the plans, and what might happen have finally caught up with us. And the burden is heavy on our shoulders. We feel the aches and pains of the extra weight we take on. Waiting for the future to arrive. It’s a lot of pressure to hold on to so much. But what if we could let it go? Find a new path. One that was easier and lighter. And the reality for the believer is that there is a path available.

Jesus said in Matthew’s account of the gospel, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV). The weight of this world can be heavy, but Jesus promises to carry that burden so we don’t have to. In fact he goes further to say that we’ll find rest for our souls when we come to Him. Imagine the release when all the extra weight comes off.

Imagine finally being able say, I've carried a burden for too long on my own. I wasn't created to bear it alone. I hear Your invitation to let it all go. I see it now. I'm laying it down and I know that I need You. I run to the Father. I fall into grace. I'm done with the hiding. No reason to wait. My heart needs a surgeon. My soul needs a friend. So I'll run to the Father again and again (Cody Carnes, Run to the Father).

The invitation is yours today. Jesus is calling to you to let go of all the extra weight you’re carrying on your shoulders. You weren’t meant to carry it alone. Is it a one and done deal? Not by a long shot. If you struggle with pressure and anxiety, it’s a journey every day. But that’s why Jesus’ promise is so profound. We can run to the Father again and again. There’s no limit to the God we serve. So when the walls close in, run to the Father. When the weight feels heavy, run to the Father. To all who are weary and heavy laden, don’t walk. Run to the Father.
