Turning Point

I believe every person growing up felt at one point that they could somehow do something to make their parents stop loving them. Or that somehow they will no longer be a part of the family. We’ve seen it represented on television time and again. A small child asks their parents after some action “does this mean you don’t love me anymore?” It’s heartbreaking to watch that look in a child’s eyes when they think they won’t be loved. And the truth is, isn’t that what we often do with God. We think that somehow our actions mean that God won’t love us. Or if I do enough, I can make God love me more. But when we dive into what Scripture says, we get a different picture.

Once you’ve accepted the new life and new identity that comes from salvation, you’re now part of the family of God. Paul goes on to say that I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39 NIV).

There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. Yes, we’ll make mistakes. Yes, we can get sidetracked. Yes, we still do wrong things. But one truth remains. God still loves us. We’re still his children. The old adage says, “we’re family. And family is forever.” Maybe that’s still hard to wrestle with. Being a part of something that’s bigger than ourselves. But the amazing truth we need to hear sometimes is that who the Son sets free, is free indeed… In my Father's house, there's a place for me. I'm a child of God… I am chosen, not forsaken… You are for me, not against me. I am who You say I am (Hillsong Worship, Who You Say I Am).

As a child of God, you have been chosen and accepted into a family of believers. And family is forever. Let it be a turning point in your life because there is nothing that can separate you from the love of God. He loves you as you are and who you are.
