How Will They Know?

When did life become about ourselves? My goals. My dreams. My accomplishments. We’ve been hurt along the way. We’ve hurt people along the way in pursuit of our own joys and happiness. As believers, we often fall in line with this pattern. We’re in such a rush to get to the finish line that we forgot what the goal was. To share the gospel. To grow deeper in our relationship with God. To stay connected to the vine.

From the very beginning, humanity has lost sight of this. We’ve become more self-centered throughout the ages. From Cain and Abel to the modern day, We are in pursuit of our own happiness. Oftentimes without the leading and connection to what God would have us do.

Honestly ask yourself today, if my concern today is about me, my needs, or what I want to accomplish, how will people know I serve the Living God. We all have a story. We all have pain. We all have distractions. And the truth is, that pain will perpetuate itself onto someone else. And that’s the gospel people will see. The reality is hurt people hurt people. Broken hearts break hearts. Life bruises unequal. Everyone fights a battle that's hard (Sidewalk Prophets, Hurt People). But is this how it should be? How will people know the truth of the gospel if all we do is perpetuate the cycle of hurt and pain. How will the gospel spread if we’re only focused on what we can achieve? It goes back to understanding the source of good in this world. Jesus said it best to His disciples. He said, a new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:34-35 NIV).

As followers of Jesus Christ, we will be known by how we love. We will be known by how we exude the fruit of the spirit in our lives. We will be known by the production of good fruit in our lives because we’re connected to the source. Yes, hurt people tend to hurt people. Yes, everyone fights a battle that’s hard somewhere in life. But that pattern can be stopped. The cycle can end. Grace where grace is needed no matter who you are. Hurt people hurt people. But love will heal our hearts (Sidewalk Prophets, Hurt People).

Love heals. Love endures. And it’s how they will know the Savior of the world. By how we love.
