For Good
Life can seem to be flying by at times. So much happening all at once… So much happening to us at times. It can be hard to see the good in a season of darkness. Especially if we have been there for a long time. The Apostle Paul could understand how that could be and more. He was beaten, imprisoned, shipwrecked… For what God had called him to do, he endured so much… Yet he always knew where the good could be found. In his letter to the Roman church he writes this:
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:1-2).
He was constantly seeking after God to renew his mind. It was then he could hold his circumstances up and test whether they were of God and his purpose or just of this world. It is a difficult practice to learn… I’m still working at it too… And often it's not easy when it seems like the weight of the world is on our shoulders…
The truth for us today is that there is good to be seen and it is in who God is. Bethel wrote a song called King of My Heart and it goes like this:
Let the King of my heart be the mountain where I run. The fountain I drink from. Oh, He is my song. Let the King of my heart be the shadow where I hide. The ransom for my life. Oh, He is my song. 'Cause You are good, you are good (King of My Heart, Bethel).
His majesty and goodness is each sunrise and sunset… Knowing and seeing God more each day will give us the ability to see the good… to be changed for the good… Even in the chaos…
It can feel at times that we are a ship blown from its mooring, by a wind off the sea. Like a seed dropped by a sky bird, in a distant wood. Who can say if I've been changed for the better, but because I knew you, I have been changed for good (Wicked the Musical).
Renew your minds today… Know God deeper today… And see that you have been changed for the good.
